Confidentiality and Integrity in the Internet of Things based Process Automation System
Industrial automation is widely used in monitoring and control of process parameters through the internet. The sensitive plant information transmitted across internet can be accessed and modified by the intruders. This leads to failure of industrial equipments and unsafe to plant operators. The security threats increases rapidly due to the wide usage of internet in the automation systems. This proposed work is the implementation of data security in internet enabled industrial automation system. The modified asymmetric RSA algorithm is proposed which generates the large key size of 8192-bit and the cryptographic hash function RIPEMD-160 which produces 160-bit message digest. This proposed security algorithm is implemented using the embedded system which performs data encryption and decryption. The sensitive process data is transmitted in unreadable form across the internet. The process data is obtained in numerical form using the decryption algorithm. This decrypted process data is monitored using the automation devices. This proposed security algorithm provides authentication, confidentiality and integrity of process variable across the internet. This proposed hash algorithm acts against collision and pre-image attacks. It achieves high data transfer rate of 600 Megabits per second and more than 95 percent efficiency. The security of process variable is highly strengthened using very large key size proposed in modified asymmetric encryption. It also prevents the damage of industrial devices from unauthorized access and modification. It assures the smooth functioning of plant operations and also provides safety to plant operators.
