DNS Driven Instance Management
Efficient cost management within cloud environments, crucial for aligning expenses with actual resource usage, is a primary focus of this project. Its core aim is to optimize AWS expenses by effectively handling idle instances, ensuring their optimal use, and implementing automatic instance shutdowns based on DNS activity. Leveraging AWS Route 53's query logging, the system continuously tracks instances without recent DNS requests, identifying idle instances for termination at 30-minute intervals. This method precisely detects inactive resources through DNS patterns, adjusting resource allocation accordingly. The achieved time savings ranging from 95 to 100 hours daily across 5 Amazon Web Services regions, and up to 9735 to 10,220 hours annually in 7 Amazon Web Services regions directly translates to substantial cost savings. This validates the project's efficiency in curtailing unnecessary expenses linked with idle resource usage.
